About River of Hope House

We believe in the power of community, faith, and accountability. Our mission is to guide each individual on their journey towards lasting recovery and personal transformation, promoting a nurturing environment where hope is restored and lives are rebuilt.

About Dave & Cheryl

Dave and Cheryl Goetchius met in the rooms of recovery at New Hope Church in 1995. They were married in 1997.  God has given them a passion for recovery and to help others.  They began by housing one person at a time in their small home, which worked so well they decided to multiply their efforts and get a bigger house. They have been members of Alcoholics Anonymous and have been leading the recovery ministry at New Hope Church since 2011. Their Christian 12-step group, Life Recovery, meets at New Hope every Wednesday night at 6:30pm.

A Ministry Rooted in the Local Church

River of Hope House is proudly affiliated with New Hope Church in Portland, Oregon. This partnership strengthens our mission, grounding everything we do in prayer, Scripture, and compassionate community care.

We believe transformation happens when the Church steps into the lives of people with love, grace, and truth — just as Jesus did.

History of God's Faithfulness

In July 2018, New Life Church dedicated two homes to expand the mission of River of Hope House. These homes became places of restoration under the leadership of two of our own recovery leaders.

From the very beginning, God has provided through His people. We continue to be humbled and overwhelmed by the generosity of donors, volunteers, and church partners who make this ministry possible. Every prayer, every gift, and every act of service helps open the doors of healing for someone seeking a new beginning.
